📘 Modal Verbs
🔹 Modal Verb क्या है?
- Modal verbs अंग्रेज़ी की सहायक क्रियाएँ (Helping Verbs) हैं।
- ये मुख्य क्रिया (Main Verb) को सामर्थ्य, संभावना, अनुमति, आवश्यकता, बाध्यता, वचन, शर्त, सलाह आदि का भाव देने के लिए उपयोग होते हैं।
- इनका कोई स्वतंत्र रूप (Infinitive/Participle) नहीं होता।
- इनके साथ हमेशा Main Verb का Base Form (V1) आता है।
👉 जैसे –
- I can swim.
- You must obey rules.

🔹 Modal Verbs
1. Can – (सकना, क्षमता, अनुमति)
- I can swim.
- She can sing well.
- He can lift this box.
- We can play cricket.
- They can solve the problem.
- Can you help me?
- You can take my pen.
- Birds can fly.
- My father can drive a car.
- Can she speak English?
2. Could – (भूतकाल की क्षमता, विनम्र अनुरोध, संभावना)
- I could run fast when I was young.
- She could dance nicely.
- He could not answer the question.
- We could play outside.
- They could help us.
- Could you open the door?
- Could I borrow your book?
- He could sing well in school.
- Could you tell me the way?
- We could not attend the meeting.
3. May – (संभावना, अनुमति, आशीर्वाद)
- It may rain today.
- She may come tomorrow.
- He may be busy.
- May I sit here?
- You may go now.
- May God bless you!
- This news may be true.
- May I borrow your pen?
- We may win the match.
- They may visit us soon.
4. Might – (कम संभावना, शंका)
- It might rain in the evening.
- She might come late.
- He might be ill.
- We might lose the match.
- They might agree with you.
- She might call you.
- He might be sleeping.
- I might go to the party.
- This story might be false.
- They might travel tomorrow.
5. Must – (अनिवार्यता, ज़रूरी होना, निश्चितता)
- You must wear a helmet.
- We must obey the rules.
- He must finish his work.
- They must study well.
- You must not cheat.
- Students must come on time.
- She must respect her parents.
- We must keep our environment clean.
- He must be tired.
- You must drink pure water.
6. Shall – (भविष्य, वचन, औपचारिक प्रस्ताव)
- I shall return soon.
- We shall overcome.
- You shall get your answer.
- He shall be rewarded.
- They shall win the game.
- Shall I open the window?
- Shall we go for a walk?
- Shall I help you?
- He shall succeed.
- We shall respect our elders.
7. Should – (सलाह, कर्तव्य)
- You should drink milk daily.
- We should respect elders.
- They should work hard.
- He should not waste time.
- Students should study regularly.
- We should keep our environment clean.
- You should be honest.
- She should take her medicine.
- They should reach on time.
- Children should obey their parents.
8. Will – (भविष्य, दृढ़ निश्चय, वचन)
- I will help you.
- She will go to Delhi.
- They will play tomorrow.
- We will win the match.
- He will be a doctor.
- I will call you later.
- She will teach us English.
- We will respect our elders.
- They will complete the project.
- You will succeed in life.
9. Would – (विनम्रता, आदत, शर्त)
- I would like a cup of tea.
- She would help me.
- He would never lie.
- They would play every evening.
- Would you like some coffee?
- Would you help me?
- We would go to the park daily.
- He would not agree.
- She would dance at parties.
- They would travel in summer.
10. Ought to – (नैतिक कर्तव्य)
- You ought to respect your parents.
- We ought to help the poor.
- They ought to study well.
- She ought to take care of her health.
- He ought to be honest.
- Students ought to obey teachers.
- We ought to love our country.
- You ought to be kind.
- Children ought to listen to elders.
- People ought to protect nature.
11. Need (as Modal) – (आवश्यकता)
- You need not worry.
- He need not come today.
- We need not buy this.
- They need not wait.
- She need not cry.
- Do I need to answer this?
- Need we go there?
- He need not work late.
- Students need not panic.
- We need not repeat it.
12. Dare (as Modal) – (साहस, हिम्मत)
- He dare not speak a lie.
- She dare not oppose him.
- They dare not break the rules.
- I dare not enter the jungle.
- He dare not cheat in the exam.
- Dare he say this?
- Dare we ask the question?
- She dare not disobey her parents.
- They dare not fight with the teacher.
- He dare not climb the wall.
